Clans of the Blueridge
The Clans of Blueridge have existed for at least 1,500 years. Their culture one that has existed without change for all of that time. Only recently have the Clans been actively adapting to contemporary times. The clans can be broken down into three major tribes; the Warwood, the Hollards, and the Azulren.
The Clans
The Azulren
The Azulren people are primarily located in the Northern most parts of Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, and parts of Ohio. They represent the most modern of the Blueridge Clans having begun to venture into some cities during the time of Western expansion in America. They found themselves in cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit and Richmond. It is during those travels that the Azulren people have their affinity to learn about modern things. Azulren are proud and creative thinkers. Auburn and a deep brown hair color, attractive features and purple eyes were typical of an Azulren.
- Enhanced Learning/Adaptability: Given their "affinity to learn about modern things" and being "proud and creative thinkers," they could have a natural aptitude for quickly understanding and mastering new technologies, languages, or complex systems.
- Urban Camouflage/Blending: While the Hollards have Mist walking, the Azulren's experience in cities might grant them an innate ability to blend seamlessly into urban environments, becoming unnoticeable in crowds or navigating complex cityscapes with ease.
- Technological Intuition: A natural understanding of how technology works, allowing them to intuitively repair, modify, or even create advanced devices.
- Persuasion/Charisma: Their "attractive features" and creative thinking could translate into a strong ability to persuade others, negotiate, or lead in social and business settings.
The Hollards
People of the Hollards have a way they move through the fog and smoke of the mountains. They can retreat into the fog at will and reappear instantaneously somewhere else. As long as there's fog, they can move. There aren't many tall Hollards, but what they lack in height is more than made up for in tenacity and strength. Hollards are athletic and limber. Characterized by hair usually short cut and grey eyes that shine silver in the moonlight.
- Advanced Mist walking/Fog Manipulation: Beyond just moving through fog, they could potentially manipulate it – thickening it, directing it, or even creating small pockets of mist to obscure vision or muffle sound.
- Supernatural Agility/Stealth: Their "athletic and limber" nature, combined with their ability to move through fog, suggests heightened agility, silent movement, and an uncanny ability to evade detection.
- Fog-Enhanced Senses: Their grey eyes that "shine silver in the moonlight" and their comfort in fog could mean their senses (sight, hearing, smell) are significantly enhanced when in misty conditions.
- Short-Range Teleportation (Fog-Bound): The phrase "reappear instantaneously somewhere else" strongly suggests a form of short-range teleportation, but strictly limited to areas with fog.
The Warwood
The Warwood are the protectors of the "Old Ways", rooted in tradition and protected by isolation. Warwood can be found anywhere in the Blueridge and will fight tooth and nail for what they consider theirs. Characterized by long hair that hangs like the leaves of weeping willows. The hair so black that there's tinges pf purple and green that appear in direct sunlight. Smoldering eyes that were bright and glowed like embers.
- Intimidation/Presence: Their "smoldering eyes that were bright and glowed like embers" could give them a naturally intimidating presence, making others wary or submissive.
- Enhanced Durability/Resistance: Their willingness to "fight tooth and nail" and protect their traditions could mean they possess a natural resilience to physical harm or environmental stressors.
Tribe Customs
All of the Clans have their specialties and peculiarities. But all the Clans share core cultural features that apply to the entire collection of the Blueridge clans.
Moon Cycles, Lunar Based
Time for the Clans of Blueridge is kept by the moon. Wise Luna guiding them day by day. Every event of importance for the Clans falls somewhere on the lunar cycle. Things happen more quickly on the lunar calendar. Most significantly, every New Moon counts as a period of survival. This survival is thus acknowledged by stating "How Many Moons I've been alive"… Or, someone might ask, "How many moons ago?"
Mistwalking
Mistwalking is a gift of the Clans. An ability to walk through the mists with the confidence of natural ability. The clans are masters at camouflaging/hiding themselves and their homes within the fog and smoke of the Blueridge mountains. Many Clansmen perform the feat unconsciously and even young children are known to have the ability.
