== Location == The physical location of the Menagerie is a closely guarded secret, and although officially listed as being at Site-89, visual surveys of the site will not reveal the facility. Those who have the required access levels have to travel from Site-89 to the Menagerie via a tunnel system hidden by a Site-89 building/structure. Travel time from Site-89 to the Menagerie is approximately 17 minutes on foot, and 6 minutes via Foundation all terrain vehicles. At its' current status, the Menagerie holds around 94 hybrid species from the project Chimera. And has an unlisted number of individual specimen from within those hybrid or chimera species. Specimen can be categorized as either, Certified for Agent use, Certification under review, or awaiting final decision. Those within the previous categories are for the specimen that have been considered for Agency/Foundation use in the field. Other specimen have designations that reflect the history and level of danger associated with the specimen. === What is a menagerie? === A menagerie is a collection of live animals kept in confinement for display to the public or for private enjoyment, often within a garden, park, or a large house. Historically, menageries were established by wealthy individuals, especially royalty and nobility, to showcase exotic and rare species that were typically brought from distant lands. These collections served various purposes, including demonstrating the collector's wealth and power, facilitating scientific study, and providing entertainment and education for visitors. Menageries can be quite diverse, housing a wide range of animal species from various parts of the world. They often include mammals, birds, reptiles, and sometimes even fish and insects. The living conditions for the animals in menageries vary greatly, depending on the time period, the resources available, and the intentions of the keeper. Some menageries aimed to provide naturalistic habitats for the animals, while others kept them in small, often inadequate enclosures. The term "menagerie" is derived from the French word "menagerie," which originally referred to a place where domestic animals were managed or maintained. Over time, it came to be associated with the more exotic and diverse collections of animals. In the modern era, the concept of a menagerie has largely been replaced by zoological gardens and wildlife parks, which focus on conservation, education, and the welfare of the animals, providing them with larger and more appropriate habitats and care. While menageries can be seen as a precursor to modern zoos, there are key differences. Modern zoos emphasize the protection of species and their natural environments, scientific research, and public education about wildlife and conservation, whereas menageries were more about displaying the animals for entertainment and status. Today, the term "menagerie" may sometimes be used to describe a small, privately owned collection of animals, often kept in less than ideal conditions, or it may be used more generally to describe any diverse and interesting assortment of objects or people, not necessarily limited to animals.
